President's Message
Agribition Thank-you's- December 2011.
Agribition is now over for another year and we have
had a successful Boer Goat show and sale. In this
report I would like to give special thanks to the
members of the Board and others who helped us have
this successful show and to Dr. Fred Homyer, who
judged the show. It takes a big team to create a
successful show.
David Hill and his wife Nola helped out at the front
end of the show. David marshalled and Nola handed
out the ribbons and banners. Neither of these jobs
are easy. A bit of a laugh at Agribition Staff
expense: Agribition ribbons came with "Boar goat"
instead of Boer Goat. We also wish to thank David
and Nola for supplying the “Rookie of the Year”
award and the “Herdsmanship “ award.
Alison Halvorson did the clerking for the show and
sale. These are tough jobs that need to be done and
it isn’t complete until after the show and all the
reports are in. Alison also Co-chairs the Agribition
show committee for SGBA. Alison and her husband
Mervin also supplied the prize money for the
children’s classes. Thanks for all you do, Alison.
Once again we also had Tanya Nagorski, from Wolseley,
doing the announcing. Tanya and her husband Murray
no longer have goats but continue their interest in
the goat industry. Tanya sounds very professional.
Thanks Tanya.
Lori Marchuk ran the table where we sold 50/50
tickets, registrations and our 2012 calendar. I
should mention here that we are also raffling a
patio set with table and four chairs to be drawn at
our joint CMGA/SGBA 2012 AGM, March 30. Lynn Colyn
also helped Lori on Tuesday.
Last of all I would like to give a special thanks to
our Barn Boss, Jared Clark, who does his job
diligently and professionally. We hope we can keep
him in that job for a few years. Thanks to Landon
Spokowski for his help with the vet check. There are
many other people, too numerous to mention, who
helped with other jobs. Thanks very much. The
volunteers often have to put up with flak from
exhibitors and the public but year after year they
keep coming back.
We need, of course, to thank our exhibitors who
spent the money and came from far and wide to show
their animals and to add to our sale. Without these
dedicated people we would neither have a show nor a
sale. When I see the groomers spending hours
washing, grooming and hoof trimming I know this is a
dedicated lot. We hope you all had a good show and
went home with the information and success you
wanted.
I also need to thank the Canadian Meat Goat
Association for sanctioning the show and giving us
the rules for the show. Kerry O’Donnel, who is also
President of the CMGA, apprentice judged under our
American judge, Dr. Fred Homyer from Robert Lee,
Texas. We look forward to hiring her to judge
Agribition a few years down the road.
Last, but certainly not least, I need to thank
Canadian Western Agribition for supplying the venue
for our showcase of the Boer Goat. Many people come
to look at the goats and we see the opportunity to
expand the meat goat industry in particular through
this showcase. Look on
www.agribition.com to find the show results or
go to the SGBA website and click on the link. There
are a few errors in the results: in spite of our
best efforts to remove goats who didn’t show, some
of those goats are still in the results; not with a
placing, but there none the less.
May you all have a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful
New Year.
Darlyne Hoberg
